What is a risk assessment?

A risk assessment identifies all the hazards, who could be harmed, evaluation of the risk and whether existing controls are adequate and any further action necessary.

Do I have to do risk assessments?

By law (Management of H&S at Work Regulations 1999) if you employ 5 or more people then it is a legal requirement.

What is COSHH?

It stands for Control of Substances Hazardous for Health Regulations 2002. COSHH assessments identify any health risks associated with work activity including dust, fume or vapor.

Do I have to do this by myself?

No, it is recommended that you consult with your staff when making any health & safety decisions. If you do not have the internal expertise, then consult with someone who does.
